Celebrate Women’s History Month with Your Library
Did you know that the origins of Women’s History Month began in Sonoma County? The Sonoma County Library invites you to share in this tribute by celebrating and learning about the generations of women who influenced and enriched our nation and society.
“Sonoma County Library is celebrating women during the month of March and beyond with a variety of virtual events, displays, resources, and of course, books,” said Sonoma County Library Director Ann Hammond. “We also encourage the community to check out the list we put together of other Women’s History Month events happening around Sonoma County.”
Local women created the Santa Rosa Women’s History Week parade in 1979, setting the stage for President Carter to issue a Presidential Proclamation in 1980 declaring the first-ever Women's History Week in early March of that year. In 1987, Congress declared March as National Women's History Month in perpetuity.
The National Women’s History Alliance designates a yearly theme for Women’s History Month. The 2022 theme is “Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope.”
Join the Sonoma County Library in learning about and celebrating the generations of women who changed the face of society through courage and activism. For more information on Women’s History Month, visit sonomalibrary.org/women-history-month-2022.
