North Bay Stage Company’s “The Hallelujah Girls” Longtime Friends Get a New Lease on Life
In The Hallelujah Girls, a feisty new play courtesy of North Bay Stage Company; resident theatre company of Luther Burbank Center for the Arts – it's all about female camaraderie and living life to the fullest. A group of girlfriends spend each Friday in an abandoned church turned makeshift day spa, but when one of their own passes away, the ladies suddenly realize that time is fleeting and life is precious. As a result, they make a pact to change their lives and follow their dreams, no matter the circumstances. Before long, their motivation falls by the wayside, so it's up to Sugar Lee, the group's de facto leader, to whip them into shape. Laughs and tensions fly as the girls challenge each other to overcome obstacles on their way to accomplishing life's biggest goals.
“It's a heartwarming, inspirational, fun-filled show that will have you chasing your own dreams,” says John DeGaetano, artistic director for North Bay Stage Company. “Co-created by Jessie Jones, one of the writers of The Golden Girls, someone who knows a little something about a comic group of female friends, along with writers Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten.”
