Redwood Credit Union Offers Free Document Shredding and Security Seminar August 12 in Santa Rosa
Redwood Credit Union (RCU) is hosting a free security event for the community on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at their Administrative Offices at 3033 Cleveland Avenue in Santa Rosa. A free seminar titled “What You Need to Know About Cyber-Crime” will be held in RCU’s community room from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; free document shredding provided by Shred-IT, and e-waste collection by Conservation Corps North Bay will be held in the building’s west parking lot from 9:00 am to noon.
“Online security is more important than ever, so we’re providing information to help people protect themselves and their personal information against common scams and fraud, as well as developing cybercrime techniques,” said RCU’s fraud and security manager Manuel Pereira, who will be presenting the security seminar at the event.
Attendees may bring up to three banker-sized boxes (15”x12”x10”) of confidential documents for shredding, such as old financial statements, canceled checks, credit card offers, and other outdated documents that contain personal information. E-waste recycling services will also be available for attendees to dispose of old computers, monitors, printers, cell phones, and other personal electronics.
“Shredding old financial documents and other confidential paperwork is one of the most effective measures we can take to protect ourselves from identity theft,” said Matthew Martin, RCU’s vice president of community and government relations, “We are excited to once again offer this free service for the community to help people securely dispose of sensitive documents.”
Monetary donations will also be accepted at the event to benefit Redwood Empire Food Bank, a local nonprofit committed to making adequate nutrition assistance available and accessible to those who need it in Sonoma County.
