Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Development Officer, the Associate Development Director (ADD) is responsible for directly supporting the staff of the Development Department. The ADD is responsible for securing major gifts, donor mapping, managing all major donor communication and acknowledgements, the annual fund, and legacy giving. The ADD manages day-to-day supervision of the Event and Volunteer Coordinator, Grant Writer, and the Database Management Specialist.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Fundraising
- Solicit, steward and secure major gifts for the organization, including the Hope Society
- Manage major donor communication and acknowledgements
- Author acknowledgments, annual appeals, and other donor communications
- Manage donor mapping for Development Department, CEO, and Board Fund Development Committee
- With CDO, develop and grow SAY’s Legacy giving and endowment programs
- Review early drafts of grants, strategize with Grant Writer on proposals and provide strategic direction on grants
Supervision
- Manage day-to-day operations of the Development Department, including providing support for event planning, annual appeal timing, donor acknowledgments, board thank-a-thons, grants, and other development activities
- Work closely with Database Management Specialist in providing timely and accurate reports to Administrative Team
- Support the CDO with annual development calendar, keeping the department on track with activities
Board relations
- Engage Board, Honorary Board and special committees
- Support the Board Fund Development Committee
Communications and events
- Represent SAY within professional circles and at public events
- Support the Communications and Marketing Manager in developing and collecting content for newsletters and blogs, the CEO weekly updates, and organizational news for distribution to SAY’s community
- Manage and run monthly tours at SAY facilities, including increasing the attendance rate
- Follow up with tour attendees, stewarding their involvement
- Support the Event and Volunteer Coordinator in planning and executing events and thanking volunteers
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience managing fundraising department
- 4 years fundraising experience
- Event management experience
- Grant writing experience and excellent award rate
- Excellent written and communication skills
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven organizational and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated skills with Microsoft Office and cloud-based applications
- Experience with Little Green Light (or similar database)
- Experience working with major donors
- Personable, engaged, and able to interact and present at many levels
- Demonstrated strong communications skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work well with and collaborate with community providers
- Outgoing, energetic, organized, and able to work independently
- Ability to manage many projects and deadlines concurrently
- Excellent aesthetic judgment
- Excellent customer service
Special Requirements:
- Must be able to meet and receive a criminal records clearance.
- Must be able to attend events on evenings and weekends.
