Why would a dedicated teacher leave the classroom to open a business?
For 17 years I taught elementary school and while there was so much I loved about being ateacher, my biggest frustration was the kids who fell through the cracks. Every year there were a handful of kids who needed extra help. They were referred to the after school program, the reading club, the Math specialist. All of these programs and interventions usually made a small bit of difference and the problem was the following year the same students were referred yet again. The gains they had made were minimal at best. It frustrated me to be told we were “doing everything we could”.
When my own daughter was struggling in school, I tried all of the usual routes: extra tutoring, extra practice at home, we even had her repeat Kindergarten. It was heartbreaking to see her work so hard and yet she still struggled. Watching my little girl cry in frustration over first grade homework every night was devastating. That’s when I discovered LearningRx.
My daughter went through a brain training program and it was a game changer. Not only did her skills improve, but her confidence grew tremendously. She learned how to work through her frustrations rather than melting down and giving up. The changes I saw in her were so awesome, I decided to bring LearningRx to Santa Rosa.
I opened LearningRx in Santa Rosa last February and it has been such an honor to be a part of the students’ transformations. In the short time I have been in business I have seen students stand taller, smile bigger, laugh more, and get better grades in school. I am so blessed to be able to be a part of something that makes such a huge impact on the lives of others.
