Courthouse Square Taking Shape - Project Update
Courthouse Square is really beginning to take shape! From the CourthouseCam you can see the framing for the curb and sidewalk, as well as the outline of the new streets. The gravel that is being placed throughout the Square is the part of the underlayment for the pavers that will be installed in the coming weeks.
The new sidewalks will be installed beginning this week. There is a stretch of several dry days projected for next week. This spell of good weather will allow the contractor to begin installing the new sidewalk on the east side of the Square beginning Friday, December 16. The work entails removal of the existing sidewalk up to the edge of the buildings adjacent to the Square. There is also some excavation work and augering holes for the new street light foundations. Once the excavation work is complete the sidewalk can be framed, concrete poured and set. The east sidewalk work is expected to be complete by Saturday, December 24.
To complete the sidewalk installation, the east walkway will be closed on Friday, December 16, to all pedestrian traffic. The shops and restaurants on Fourth Street will be easily accessible from D Street to the east and from B Street to the west. Access to businesses at 50 Courthouse Square will be available through Parking Lot 5. The walkway is expected to be reopened the following week.
This is an exciting time because we have now entered the phase where the large hardscape features of the Square are being constructed. The city is very appreciative of the community’s patience and understanding while we work to build this project in the heart of Santa Rosa. The city recognizes the impacts of ongoing construction in Downtown, and is making every effort to complete this project as quickly as possible.
With the winter holidays approaching, the entire construction team would like to extend a warm holiday greeting to you. May you enjoy a peaceful and merry holiday with family and friends!
