Gala Honoree Spotlight: TLCD Architecture, Small Business of the Year
From its humble beginnings in 1965 as a single-person practice, TLCD Architecture has evolved over 50 years, emerging as the premier architectural firm in North Bay. In 1993 LCD Architects and Tomasi Architects, both founded in the 1960s, joined forces as TLCD Architecture to combine recourses to better compete against larger firms from outside the area. Concurrently, a second generation of leadership took the reins and since then has steadfastly worked to raise the profile of the firm, particularly the level of design in our region. More recently TLCD has expanded from its traditional base of educational projects (including notable projects such as Maria Carrillo High School and SRJC's Frank P. Doyle Library) into a wide variety of building types including healthcare, commercial, governmental, transportation, hospitably and urban mixed-use.
With numerous design awards to its credit, TLCD continues to expand its leadership role though a relentless focus on quality and research-based design, most recently represented by high-profile projects such as Museum on the Square and American AgCredit's Headquarters. Because of its unwavering commitment to quality design, TLCD is able to attract top design talent. The firm is active in its community, and in particular is committed to the success of Santa Rosa's downtown.
TLCD Architecture and its employees have been active in giving back to the community throughout its 50-year history. TLCD's culture embraces public service and as our staff has grown, so have their volunteer efforts. The firm offers paid time off to employees for public service in addition to being committed to office-wide service projects during and after office hours.
TLCD Architecture's commitment to the revitalization of downtown Santa Rosa is perhaps the best example of the firm's contributions to Sonoma County's economic well-being, and its Museum on the Square project is the most visible example. According to TLCD Principal Don Tomasi, AIA, “TLCD is passionate about the Santa Rosa downtown. The opportunity to participate in the Museum on the Square project was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The reuse of this building is an example of social and environmental responsibility--the ultimate sustainability strategy--and when completed, along with the reunification of Courthouse Square will be a catalyst for downtown development.”
