Investing in Our Future Workforce - Mike Hauser Academy Graduation

The Mike Hauser Academy wrapped up its immersive summer science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) program with a graduation ceremony at Sonoma State University’s Person Theatre on Friday, June 30. One-hundred fifty-three students capped off their three-week Academy experience with tours of the university as well as hearing from a panel of current college students and Academy Alumni.

New this year were informational presentations for parents on A-G course requirements for college admission and career technical education information presented by Kathy Goodacre of the CTE Foundation. This was also the first year the Mike Hauser Academy has partnered with Santa Rosa City Schools' M.O.V.E. Academy, increasing the number of students participating. Another result of this partnership is the 2017 class will be the first to have their success and interest in STEM tracked during their high school years, providing an important metric in assessing the Academy’s effectiveness.

Programs such as the Mike Hauser Academy exemplify the Chamber’s ongoing commitment to workforce development and its importance for our member businesses. Our business community’s future success is dependent on workers’ skills, and the Mike Hauser Academy is one means for the Chamber to directly and dramatically improve the skills of our future workforce.
