Last week, 22 employees from five local agricultural companies graduated from the Chamber’s WHEEL (Worksite Held Employee English Learning) Program that was presented in partnership with the Sonoma County Farm Bureau. The nine week program was offered free of charge and tailored to the unique needs of the agriculture industry in increasing participants' English language skills. Participating companies included Bacchus Vineyard Management, Preston Farm and Winery, Quivira Vineyards & Winery, Top Notch Grafting, and Sanchietti Farming.
The WHEEL Program produces many benefits for both participants and employers including increased work safety and productivity, greater self-confidence and morale, and enhanced home and community life. From after-hours English classes to financial and family literacy workshops, most WHEEL elements can be coordinated at low or no cost to participating businesses.
