United Way Children’s Book Drive Drop-off at the Chamber
The Santa Rosa Metro Chamber is proud to participate with United Way Women United and United Way of the Wine Country in their Children's Book Drive. Our Chamber office (50 Old Courthouse Square, Suite 110) as well as our California Welcome Center in Railroad Square (9 Fourth Street) will be open to receive your book donations throughout the month of March.
During the book drive, community members rally in support of education and childhood literacy by donating new and gently used English and Spanish children’s books. Books are collected from almost 30 public drop-off sites and distributed to children for free through United Way’s education initiatives, the Free Bookmobile of Sonoma County, Sonoma County Human Development, Guerneville School, and Roseland Elementary.
United Way began its local book drive in 2011 in support of education which is one of three key focus areas for United Way. Over the past seven years, members of the community have donated almost 41,000 books. The books help to create home libraries for many children and families who do not have easy access to reading material outside of school.
The Chamber supports the drive’s goal of increasing childhood literacy and early reading skills by distributing books to kids throughout our area. United Way wants to help as many children as possible obtain books of their own to encourage reading at home and ultimately reading proficiency.
