When Your Hometown is a Destination
June 6, the Chamber Board Room was packed with people investing in their professional development and earning their Certified Tourism Ambassador designation. 2,500 Sonoma County professionals have graduated from this program representing all sectors of the tourism and business communities including bankers, realtors, retailers, hospitals, hotels and more.
School’s out, California’s primary election has just wrapped up, the weather is here, and if you’re like most people you’re looking forward to some summer time off for a little rest and relaxation, hanging out with friends, or planning new adventures. Whether you’re hosting out-of-town guests or planning some staycation recreation, we’ll remind you of a well-known fact: Santa Rosa is the happening hub for all there is to see, do, eat, drink, hike, bike and explore in Sonoma County.
But how is a visit to Santa Rosa and Sonoma County made even better? One example took place this week when Visit Santa Rosa and the Metro Chamber hosted a training and certification class for the Sonoma County Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) Program. Many destinations boast fabulous restaurants, interesting sightseeing and unique attractions – but inevitably, the most memorable experiences we have as a traveler involve the people we meet. These Ambassadors become the front-line to positive, memorable visitor experiences that make a lasting impression and encourage more visitors to choose our destination.
Nearly 100% of the volunteer staff at the California Welcome Center in historic Railroad Square in downtown Santa Rosa are CTAs. As personal travel concierges these knowledgeable experts provide helpful suggestions and local information that enhance and enrich visitors’ experiences. Amazingly, last year, the staff met with a record-breaking 58,000 visitors at the California Welcome Center.
Insider tip: even if you’re a long time Santa Rosa / Sonoma County resident, VisitSantaRosa.com is a great resource for you and your guests to get inspired about discovering our area. And for those who want a personal, face-to-face concierge service, the California Welcome Center in Railroad Square is open 7 days a week, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm year around.
